Art thieves to be precise.
I do not understand how some people feel that it's okay to steal someone's HARD WORK, and claim it as their own. What the fuck. Do you even realize what you're doing!? You wouldn't steal someone's TV, you wouldn't steal someone's food, you wouldn't steal a movie AND MAKE IT YOUR OWN. So why is it okay to steal someone's art? Well let me answer that. IT'S NOT.
I can understand that if you're not that good at drawing, you might want to trace over something to get the right structure of whatever you're trying to draw. BUT AT LEAST REFERENCE IT. There's no shame in saying 'I just traced a few parts here', and link where you got it from. That, would be okay. But if you trace someone's art without linking back to the original, that's just wrong. You've taken someone's work, and claimed it as your own. What part of that makes you feel good? It's not your own art, you'll always have this guilt inside you saying 'It's not really my art...'. And when people compliment it and say 'This is amazing!', that guilt will haunt you forever, and you will always know deep down that it's not your work.
You know what's even worse? People who don't even trace! They just take the image, save it to their computer and upload it as their own! It's pretty obvious to see you've stolen it if you take two pictures from completely different styles!! If you steal from one artist, that's even worse. People, please, just STOP stealing art work from other people! Those people you're stealing from? Probably practiced for a decent amount of years to get to a nice standard they're happy with. You're basically taking that happiness away from them, all that practice away from them and exploiting their skills as your own. IT'S NOT ON.
I simply ask this;
1. DO NOT STEAL SOMEONE'S WORK AND NOT LINK BACK.
2. If you do link back, and the owner asks you to take it down, DON'T JUST MAKE SOME SASSY COMMENT LIKE 'oh but i made sure to give u credit, so its okay'. If they're not happy with it, don't just assume you're in the right because you linked it.
3. If you're planning on viewing someone else's art in something like a gif, or a journal, MAKE SURE YOU ASK. If they say no, NO.MEANS.NO. That does NOT mean it's still okay just because you know that they know you're interested in using their art in some way.
4. If you see someone having stolen some art, INFORM THE THIEF AND OWNER IN A POLITE MANNER. Just because they're in the wrong, does not mean you need to swear and call them bad names. Ask them with a cautious amount of assertiveness, and warn them that their art will be reported if they don't either link back to the owner or take it down. You could be reported just for being rude to the artist, and that'll just be no win for anyway won't it?
I cannot stress enough how annoying this is for the world of artists. It's ridiculous how people think it's okay. I can't do much else rather than rant about it. I'm not one to say this person is right and this person is wrong, I'm merely stating an opinion. If you're not that good at drawing, that's okay! No one is EVER good when they first start! Heck I'm still really bad, but I will keep practicing. I've taken my own initiative to try and see if art lessons will benefit in anyway, but even if you can't get art lessons, just look around for tutorials! There are HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS of tutorials online! All you can do is practice and develop your own style.
This goes without saying for ANYTHING ELSE. Don't steal OC's, don't steal ideas, don't steal characters, don't steal anything in general. Stealing is just something that should not be done in any form. No matter the circumstances.
So yeah, aside from the rant, SUP o7o
I'm nearly finished school, I'm doing a transition from one year to the other at the moment, and there's a lot of work to be done. I still have another week, then camp, THEN, I can finally start to get back to RPing and such ;w;
Sorry for the lack of activity everyone, I promise I'll be back eventually~
